2 arrested for robbing Surat bizman with ‘cheap gold’ deal

Jhunjhunu: Police in Jhunjhunu district have arrested two men accused of luring a Surat businessman with a “cheap gold” offer, getting him to transfer Rs 6.8 lakh, and then robbing him at gunpoint.Chirawa DSP Vikas Kumar said the arrested accused are Rajneesh of Kishorpura and Nitish Kumar of Lamba Gothda.According to the complaint filed by the victim, Mehul Bhai of Surat, Rajneesh contacted him claiming 60 gm of gold was mortgaged in a bank and offered to get it released and sold at a low price. Mehul Bhai travelled to Chirawa, where the accused arranged a hotel stay, citing it was late at night.The next morning, police said, Rajneesh took him to the bank and got him to transfer Rs 6.8 lakh via RTGS into Rajneesh’s account, claiming the bank would not accept payment from a third party.After the transfer, the businessman was taken on a bike to a deserted spot near Kishorpura village, where “5-6 criminals” were waiting with weapons, police said. The group allegedly held him hostage, snatched his phone, forced him to reveal his UPI PIN by threatening to beat him, and transferred another Rs 35,000-40,000. Cash and the phone were also taken.Police said the attackers threatened him, saying, “The system here is in our hands, go back to Gujarat quietly.” The businessman later reached Chirawa police station and filed a report.
