JAIPUR: Students at the University of Rajasthan protested Friday for the resumption of canteen services following its closure due to financial issues.Demonstrating outside the vice chancellor’s office, the students set up a makeshift stove to prepare and serve tea to fellow students.Student leader Shubham Rewar, who set up the makeshift tea stall, said, “Students are not getting basic amenities like tea, snacks or light meals that were available in the canteen. They are having to bear the brunt of this situation, as they cannot always buy food from outside.”During the protest, the students warned that if swift action is not taken to address their demands, they will intensify their agitation further.Later in the day, members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) joined the protest and set up a snack stall inside the campus, displaying a poster titled ‘Students’ Canteen’.“If the administration fails to make proper arrangements, students will be forced to take matters into their own hands,” said Manish Meghvanshi, president, NSUI unit at the University. He demanded reopening of the canteen along with regular cleaning of the premises, quality food, clean drinking water, adequate seating and regulated prices of the food items.
