Rajasthan steps up campaign to curb child marriages ahead of festive season

JAISALMER: To effectively curb child marriages in Jaisalmer district, the district administration has implemented strict measures along with a special monitoring system. In view of upcoming occasions such as Akshaya Tritiya (20 April 2026) and Peepal (Vaishakh Purnima) (1 May 2026), the campaign to prevent child marriage has been intensified. District Collector Anupama Jorwal stated that special teams have been formed to prevent child marriages during Akshaya Tritiya. A joint campaign has been launched in coordination with the police. Immediate action will be taken by administration and police teams upon receiving any information regarding child marriage. A control room has been established and helpline numbers have been issued for this purpose. Appealing to the public, she urged people to educate their daughters, emphasising that education will empower them to understand their rights. She also advised that marriages should be conducted only at the legally permitted age. Additionally, citizens have been encouraged to stop any child marriage in their vicinity or inform the district administration. All complaints received at the control room will be formally registered and prompt action will be taken. She further appealed that if any information regarding child marriage is received, people should immediately inform the control room at 02992-294450 or dial 1098 so that timely action can be ensured. The administration stressed that child marriage is not only a punishable offence but also severely affects the physical, mental, and social development of children. The district administration has made it clear that building a child marriage-free society requires active participation from all sections of society along with administrative efforts.
