Kanpur: Two miscreants were arrested on Sunday for cyber fraud in which they lured gullible, less-educated persons with promises of jobs abroad and sent them to Cambodia via Thailand, where attempts were made to force them to carry out cyber fraud.The matter came to light after a victim lodged a complaint on Saturday at Beconganj police station, alleging he was defrauded of approximately Rs 3,00,000. The SWAT team and Beconganj police arrested the two accused. During interrogation, the accused admitted to luring less-educated young men, sending them to Cambodia and making them carry out cyber fraud.The police said the investigation, so far, found that about a dozen persons were sent to Cambodia, of whom three returned to India. Efforts were underway to gather information about the remaining persons and take necessary action. Evidence collection and legal proceedings were continuing regarding other persons involved in the case.The arrested persons were identified as Mohd Anas of Kagzi Mohaal, Colonelganj and Mohd Faisal Warsi, resident of Bena Jhabar, Swaroopnagar. They were arrested from Dalelpurwa intersection. It was found that the two accused trapped simple and less-educated boys of Kanpur by luring them with promises of good-package jobs abroad, getting their visas made through other means, booking their airport tickets using the victims own money and sending them to countries like Cambodia. For sending these boys to Cambodia, the gang received Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per person.Upon reaching Cambodia, the boys discovered that platforms for cyber fraud methods were set up there, including gaming scams, lottery winning scams, digital arrest scams and other cyber fraud techniques. The gang present there made these boys call different countries and carry out cyber fraud by getting the scammed money transferred into their accounts.The police said that when the boys realised what kind of work was being done there, they escaped, returned and filed a complaint. After registering the case, the surveillance team and cyber team conducted an in-depth investigation. The investigation revealed that the two accused sent boys from KanpurтАЩs Kakadeo, Beconganj, Chamanganj and several other areas multiple times. Some of those people were still working there, while some escaped and returned. When asked how many people they sent, the accused stated they sent approximately one dozen boys, for which they received Rs 4 lakh each.Efforts were being made to trace all those boys, and investigations were underway to identify who else was involved in the gang that was running multiple platforms. The arrested accused were being presented before the court.
