Transport Nagar bus terminal lacks basic amenities

Jaipur: A year after its launch, RSRTCтАЩs Transport Nagar bus terminal on Agra Road continues to function without basic passenger amenities, exposing commuters to inconvenience and safety risks at all hours. Envisaged as a key transit hub, the terminal today offers little beyond an open space and uncertainty for travellers. On April 7, Rahul Yadav reached the terminal around 5am to board an early morning deluxe bus to Delhi, only to find the premises in complete darkness. There were no lights, no enquiry office, no announcement system and no visible staff presence. Inside, a lone tea vendor appeared to be the only point of contact for confused passengers.тАЬTaking a late evening and early morning bus from this terminal is not at all safe. There is no security whatsoever. The state govt is lucky that no major incident took place in the last one year. But it may happen any day,тАЭ Yadav said.A Team TOI visit on Wednesday afternoon found that the facility remains poorly planned in practice and under-equipped. The sheds constructed at the terminal are largely unused, while buses were seen boarding passengers from a corner near the exit gate and tea stall, where there is no proper shelter. Seating is inadequate, and even basic cooling arrangements are missing.тАЬForget about air conditioning system; the entire areas of the shades are not even covered by fans,тАЭ a commuter said.Officials attributed the delay in improving facilities to a larger transport infrastructure plan. RSRTC said the state budget proposed developing four satellite bus stands across Jaipur and redeveloping Sindhi Camp into a multi-modal terminal. Following this, the Rajasthan State Bus Terminal Development Corporation (RBTD) asked RSRTC to prepare a detailed project report (DPR).A senior RSRTC official said the corporation appointed RITES and prepared the report, but RBRTDC has not responded for over 18 months. тАЬAs per the RITES report, the satellite terminal on Agra Road may come up on the same plot or shift to Bagrana. Until we get clarity, RSRTC is not ready to spend money on the present facility,тАЭ the official said.
