Jhansi: A 28-year-old Manipuri spa worker, identified as Mangenik Harkip alias Teressa alias Simmi, died on Wednesday under suspicious circumstances at her rented accommodation here.The matter drew attention when her colleague from the spa, along with her brother, attempted to cremate the body without proper documents.Originally from Chandel, Manipur, Simmi had moved to Jhansi in Nov 2025 after working briefly in New Delhi. She joined a spa near Nandanpura, where she befriended Zoya, a local resident of Jhokanbagh. Simmi, a Christian, later began living in ZoyaтАЩs rented house and allegedly entered into a relationship with ZoyaтАЩs brother.On Wednesday evening, Simmi reportedly succumbed to a prolonged illness. Zoya informed her husband, Mangenik Harkip alias Jhon, who resides in New Delhi. By the time Jhon arrived with a friend on Thursday, ZoyaтАЩs brother had already tried to carry out the cremation. However, the cremation ground in-charge stopped the process after learning of SimmiтАЩs religious background and the absence of verification documents. Jhon then alerted the police, who sent the body for postmortem examination.Meanwhile, station officer, Nawabad police station, Ravi Srivastava said that the police were waiting for the post-mortem examination report and have not lodged any report yet.
