Kanpur: In view of the ongoing extreme heat conditions, the district administration has drawn up a heatwave action plan to ensure preparedness and protection against its impact.District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh directed all departments to work in close coordination to provide relief during the heatwave and ensure that essential arrangements are made well in advance.The DM directed the chief medical officer (CMO) to establish a ‘cool ward’ at the district hospital. He also directed him to set up ‘cool rooms’ with a capacity of at least five beds at all community health centres and primary health centres to provide immediate relief to patients.The revenue department has been asked to submit a list of ponds and other water sources in the district, based on which the irrigation department will arrange to fill them during summer. The District Magistrate also directed police to provide details of personnel on traffic duty, so the municipal corporation can set up shelters for their relief.The municipal corporation was instructed to provide shade, drinking water, and other relief facilities at key locations across the city, while the veterinary department was directed to ensure adequate measures to protect livestock in gaushalas from heatstroke.The transport department was instructed to ensure drinking water and seating arrangements for passengers at bus stands, while the jal nigam was directed to maintain an uninterrupted supply of potable water during the heatwave and deploy tankers wherever required.The fire department has been directed to remain on 24/7 alert at all centres and to keep an inventory of resources ready to ensure a swift response in the event of any emergency. Instructions have also been issued to conduct awareness campaigns in rural areas in view of the potential risk of fire incidents.Senior district officials and disaster management experts attended the meeting.
