Jaipur: Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully Saturday launched a sharp attack on BJP state president Madan Rathore, terming his remarks “factually baseless and misleading” and alleging that the party’s pro-women stance is “merely an electoral facade.”He said the BJP’s claims of supporting women’s rights were driven by political gains rather than intent. Raising the issue of the Women’s Reservation Bill, Jully accused the Centre of failing to implement the constitutional amendment “in its true spirit” and demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation “on moral grounds.”“A govt that gives only deception to half the country’s population in the name of their rights has no moral right to remain in power,” he said.Jully alleged that the issue went beyond the reservation bill, claiming there was “a deeper conspiracy related to delimitation hidden behind it.” He said the Modi govt wanted delimitation without caste census data, which would give the BJP “complete freedom to act arbitrarily and manipulate electoral constituencies.” He added that the opposition had opposed this “hidden agenda.”Targeting the Centre further, Jully said the govt was “trying to wound the fundamental spirit of the Constitution” by turning women’s reservation into a “weapon.” He said that Congress would “stop with full force every step” aimed at weakening constitutional principles “in the name of women,” adding that “tampering with the rights of Dalits and backward classes will no longer be tolerated.”He also questioned why the Women’s Reservation Bill, passed unanimously in Parliament in 2023, had not been implemented. Jully accused the Centre of delaying it by entangling it in “the web of census and delimitation.”Accusing the BJP of lacking consensus-building, he said the govt had “not even an iota of faith in ‘consensus’,” and was misleading the country through “event management” and “PR.”
