Jaipur: The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly is preparing for a possible increase in the number of MLAs, with officials stating that the existing infrastructure can accommodate up to 260 members in the Central Hall.The development comes in the backdrop of recent developments at the Centre. Following the fall of the constitutional amendment bill, the Delimitation Bill was withdrawn, leaving the exercise to be carried out after the 2027 Census.Speaker Vasudev Devnani said that if the House strength rises beyond 280, proceedings can be shifted to a larger hall on the fourth floor of the Assembly building, which has the capacity to seat up to 300 members.“The Assembly is ready to accommodate additional members within the same building and provide adequate space for smooth conduct of proceedings,” said Devnani.Officials indicated that preliminary planning has already been carried out, and state-level agencies are prepared to draw up a detailed plan if and when the strength of the House is increased.The current Assembly building, designed with a long-term vision, was constructed to meet requirements for several decades.
