Kanpur: A jewellery trader in Farrukhabad has been booked for allegedly filing a false robbery complaint and attempting to implicate his brother-in-law.The accused, identified as Shyam Ji Verma, a resident of Tikona Sabzi Mandi under Mau Darwaza police limits, was later challaned on charges of breach of peace and granted bail by the City Magistrate Court.According to police, Verma had lodged a complaint on Friday claiming that unidentified car-borne miscreants stopped him on Silsila Marg and robbed him of 20 grams of gold. He further alleged that he chased the vehicle and recorded a video before the assailants fled.During investigation, police traced the vehicle through its registration details and contacted the associated mobile number. The call was answered by Dilip Soni, a resident of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, who stated that the car was registered in his wife Poonam Soni’s name.Upon questioning, Dilip revealed that Verma was his brother-in-law and alleged that he had previously fled from Ahmedabad after taking money from several people, with a case already registered against him there. He also claimed that Verma harboured a grudge against him.Police said further inquiry established that the robbery claim was fabricated with the intent to falsely implicate Dilip Soni. A case has been registered against Verma, and further action is underway.
