Kanpur: Two women were critically injured after a speeding auto-rickshaw knocked them down at Ramadevi crossing in Kanpur on Tuesday night, overturning on top of them, police said.Passers-by pulled the women out from under the vehicle after hearing their screams, rushed them to hospital and handed the auto-rickshaw driver to the police.Akbar Khan, a resident of Sanigwan, said his wife Shabana Khan went shopping to Lalbangla Bazar with their daughters Samra Khan, 22, and Bushra Khan, 24.After shopping, they reached Ramadevi Crossing by e-rickshaw and waited for an auto-rickshaw when an another out-of-control auto-rickshaw struck both daughters with great force and overturned on top of them. Shabana Khan moved away from the spot and saved herself.The injured women were taken to Kanshiram Hospital, where doctors referred them to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital as their condition was critical.After the accident, people at the scene alleged that the driver was drunk, which caused the accident.Station in-charge Ajay Prakash Mishra said that the accused auto-rickshaw driver is being interrogated.
